Blue Butterflies Small Things card with Cindy Bristow

Blue Butterflies Small Things card
with Cindy Bristow

Howdy!

In my Coloring your Creative Journey class, we have worked with shades of blue color swatches this month, and I wanted to share one of the cards we colored.

This cards was created using the smallest butterfly from the Small Things stamp set  by FSJ.  Don't you love the sentiment?

I used my FSJ Color Burst pencils to color the butterflies.  The Color Burst pencils are the regular colored pencils, not the watercolor ones.  You get vibrant colors and they go on very smooth and creamy.  I did not have to use a blending stub or anything else to get these butterflies to blend this well.

5 x 7 Good Vibes Canvas using Jane Davenport's Tin of Mermaids with Cindy Bristow

5 x 7 Good Vibes Canvas using Jane Davenport's Tin of Mermaids
with Cindy Bristow

Howdy!

Today I would like to share a fun and creative way to use up all those scraps of paper we all have laying around.   You would never guess that this fun canvas started out as a mix of scraps!

I started out with a 5x7 canvas and a bunch of scraps which I glued down using Journey Gel Medium.  Then I used the polka dots from the Mad Confetti stamp set and the fish scale stamp from the Tin of Mermaid set along with my Cave Black Squid ink to randomly stamp over the canvas.  Once all of that was dry, I covered the entire canvas with a coat of Journey Gesso.

Once my Gesso had dried, I stamped the Good Vibes from the Mad Confetti stamps in the top corner.  I also created the scene using the Tin of Mermaids set.  I used my Color Splash pencils to color the entire thing.  If you would like to watch a video, head on over to my Cindy's Creative Journey facebook page for complete instructions.

Jane Davenport's Tin of Mermaids card 2 with Cindy Bristow

Howdy!

I am in love with this stamp set!  It is so much fun to combine all of the little elements to create cards.  Today I combined it with and embossing folder and got a cool wave effect on my background.

I started with Whip Cream cardstock and the Layered Scallops embossing folder.  After I had embossed my cardstock, I used my Color Splash watercolor pencils to add some color to the back panel.  After my panel was dry, I added some texture by stamping the dot background stamp from the Mad Confetti stamp set with both the Blue Marlin and Scallop Shell Squid inkpads.  I felt like the background need a bit more so I sprinkled Black Licorice silk, Whip Cream silk, and Bubble Gum silk randomly over the entire panel.  The finishing touch on the background was to stamp it with the Wild and Free sentiment from the Mad Confetti stamp set.

For the focal point, I stamped the mermaid from the Tin of Mermaids onto a die cut circle and colored her also with my Color Splash watercolor pencils.  I layered the mermaid circle onto a small strip of cardstock that I had stamped with the wave patterned stamp from the same set.

Both the stamped strip and the mermaid where then layered onto a Black Licorice die cut circle towards the bottom left of my card.

The entire panel of watercolor and focal point image was then layered onto Black Licorice cardstock and placed onto a Whip Cream cardstock base.

Jane Davenport Tin of Mermaids with Cindy Bristow

Jane Davenport Tin of Mermaids
with Cindy Bristow

Howdy!

This weekend my husband and I spent time working in our backyard. We have cleared the back fence which was hopelessly over grown, began carving out a bed line and transplanted several of the Plumbago.  All of that outdoor time rejuvenated my creative spirit and brought me back into my craft room.

This morning I pulled out a few new (to me) Jane Davenport sets and my watercolor pencils to begin playing.

How much fun is this?  I started with Whip Cream cardstock and stamped the Wild and Free words form the Mad Confetti clear stamp set towards the right hand bottom using  Cave Black Squid ink.  Then I grabbed the mermaid face out of the Tin of Mermaids wood mount stamp set and stamped her all around the words.  I love that even though this face is small, less then a inch, when you stamp her multiple times, she has a huge impact!

Now for the fun part, I pulled out my Color Splash pencils and Small Blending Brush and went to town.  I colored the girls skin first using 3 different skin tones, then the hair.  Once that was done, I water colored the background blending blues, greens, yellows, and reds.  Once the watercolor was dry, I grabbed the dot background stamp from the Mad Confetti stamp set and randomly stamped some Blue Marlin and Scallop Shell Squid ink onto my art.  I took a step back and decided I wanted just a bit more action to my piece so I tapped some Black Licorice Silk, Whip Cream Silk and Pink Bubble Gum Silk randomly over it.

The finished piece was layered onto Black Licorice cardstock, Cool Pool cardstock, Whip Cream cardstock, and the again onto Black Licorice and is ready to be put into a 5 x 7 frame.
